On the 21st of July 2024, Watawala Plantations PLC proudly hosted the Poson Kalapaya 2024 across Thalangaha, Nakiyadeniya, and Homodola estates, bringing together the Udugama communities in a vibrant and spiritually enriching celebration.
Poson Poya Day, a significant occasion in the Buddhist calendar commemorating the introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka by Arahat Mahinda, was at the heart of our Poson Kalapaya.
The highlight of the event was the Poson Kuudu Tharangaya, a competition for the best lantern. Community members displayed their creativity and craftsmanship, illuminating the night with beautiful and intricate lanterns. The winners of the competition were awarded cash prizes:
● 1st Place: LKR 100,000
● 2nd Place: LKR 50,000
● 3rd Place: LKR 25,000
Poson Kalapaya 2024 also featured a variety of other events that fostered community engagement and spiritual enrichment:
● Dansalas: Free food stalls serving meals to all attendees.
● Bhakthi Geetha Tharanga: Devotional song sessions that enhanced the spiritual atmosphere.
Poson Kalapaya 2024 was more than just a religious event; it was a celebration of the unity and strength of our Udugama communities. The event provided an opportunity for residents of Thalangaha, Nakiyadeniya, and Homodola to come together, celebrate, and reflect on shared values and traditions.
